Issue # 17 - Are you keeping your ‘H’ in order?

From A - Z… the series continues, letter ‘H’

Taking care of this will determine how far you get in life. I’m sure you want to get very far. When this thing takes a downward turn it can affect your whole being. Bear in mind many times you go day after day and neglect your responsibility toward this.

Anything that needs attention and keeps getting ignored will one day speak up and tell you about it. The sad thing about it? It may take a serious amount of work and effort to restore it back to the place where it is most happy. And even worse, sometimes it is too late for anything to be done.

The letter ‘H’ wants to make sure you don’t end up in this state. Many are wishing they took the time to properly give attention to this. Are you keeping your ‘health’ in check? “Health is not valued till sickness comes” - Dr. Thomas Fuller.

Health:
1.physical, mental wellness.
2.Soundness, especially of body or mind; freedom from disease or abnormality.

I feel fine. Why should I go to the doctor?

Heart disease is the leading cause of death and disability in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In 2008, a projected 770,000 Americans will have a new coronary attack, and 430,000 will have a recurrent one. This estimate translates into a coronary event about every 26 seconds and a death every minute.

One of the reasons behind these high numbers is the continuing lack of information. Many people don't grasp their risk. They also tend to imagine heart attack symptoms like those in the movies -- sudden and intense pain, often shooting up the arm and gripping the chest. But most start slowly, with mild pain or discomfort, and people often fail to realize what is happening and wait too long to get help

TV newsman Tim Russert dies of heart attack
What if there was something simple you could do every day that would burn calories, be good for your heart, and help you stay young. You'd do it, right?

In a recent study conducted at Duke University Medical Center, researchers found that walking briskly for 30 minutes every day lowers your odds of developing metabolic syndrome, a cluster of risk factors linked to higher risks of heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. Roughly 24 million women in the United States have metabolic syndrome.

Don't have time for a daily half-hour walk? Try multitasking: A British study found that active commuting (incorporating walking and cycling into your sedentary commute) is associated with an 11 percent reduction in heart-disease risk, especially among women. "A man's health can be judged by which he takes two at a time -- pills or stairs." - Joan Welsh

Today there is more knowledge at your fingertips than you can handle. So there is no excuse for us to be ignorant to your well being. With this said, why do we struggle with this issue of health though? It has to be because of decision with what we do and consume. If you do only half of what you know you will be in a much better position. Does your environment dictate to your health? Check these top 10 countries and there life expectancy.

Do you know what you need?

The health of Americans is on the decline. Food is being processed faster but is quality being comprised to meet the demands of quantity? I was watching a television program this week and something said caught my attention. A fitness lady was sharing about using the results of a physical to find out the areas that you need to supplement.

Do you know what your body is lacking right know? Want to really find out ? Well you have to go to the doctor. Hope you do all it takes to keep in good health. "Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit"-3 John 1:2 (NLT).

Issue # 16 - What’s standing between you and your ‘G’ ?

From A - Z… the series continues, letter 'G'

Everyone of us desires to get to a certain destination before we leave this side of heaven. All to often many don’t try hard enough to get to that desired place. If everything was that easy in life everyone would accomplish anything. Only those that really persevere will get where they want to go.
Obstacles can cause you to respond in many ways. They will either make you or break you. Think about the last obstacle you faced. I’m sure you were faced with one of these emotions fear, weariness, sadness, discouragement, doubt, sympathy.

After being faced with one or more of these you were probably given the opportunity to stop trying, give up, cry, grumble, stay by yourself or run away. All these come in an effort to get you to take your focus off your intended end. You know them as distractions. Today the letter 'G' is asking what’s standing between you and your 'goals' ?

Goals:
1. The purpose toward which an endeavor is directed; an objective.
2. What one intends to do or achieve.
3. The end point toward which effort is directed.

"It is hard to begin to move when you don't know where you are moving, how to move, or if you are going to get there."
Peter Nivio Zarlenga

Goals should be a common thing in various sectors of our lives. From individual goals, family, school/college, work, church, organization, national. Therefore some things should be standard.

What are you aiming for ?

success, new career, better grades, car, house, more knowledge, college ,business, excellence, more loving, know God, fulfill your purpose, be a better friend, unselfish, get married, be healthier, more prosperous, learn a new language.

After the great desire and telling others you need to WRITE IT DOWN. It doesn’t matter if you know it frontward, backward, upside down, inside out still write it down. There is power in writing down your goals. "2..,Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. 3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry". Habakkuk 2:2-3 ( KJV). In this way you can track your progress from start to finish.

How did you get more familiar with your school or company goals? You saw it in writing. Every proper organization will have it’s goals written out. This helps to make sure everyone knows what bulls eye we are aiming for.

If you are serious about where you want to go you will write it down. Here’s some information to think about.
*Study finds goal setting profitable:
In the book titled, "Look Within or Do Without" by Tom Bay, Harvard Business School did a study on the financial status of its students 10 years after graduation and found that:

• As many as 27% of them needed financial assistance
• A whopping 60% of them were living paycheck to paycheck
• A mere 10% of them were living comfortably
• And only 3% of them were financially independent

The study also looked at goal setting and found these interesting correlations.

• The 27% that needed financial assistance had absolutely no goal setting process in their lives
• The 60% that were living paycheck to paycheck had basic survival goals; such as managing to live paycheck to paycheck
• The 10% that were living comfortably had general goals. They thought they knew where they were going to be in the next five years
• The 3% that were financially independent had written out their goals and the steps required to reach them

This simple process helps you to be more focused and discipline. How? Anything that doesn’t match what you have written and are aiming for you don’t need to be wasting time doing or being a part of. Anything not associated with keeping your eye on the mark is a distraction.

Do you think goals are important? Do you have any goals? If you don’t want to go anywhere then don’t plan. If you have read this far I believe you do and that’s why I am encouraging you to put it in writing and follow through.

Is the reason why you are not accomplishing anything, or hitting any bulls eye because you are not aiming for anything? Even when you miss that’s better than nothing because you can adjust your attempt and try again.

If you haven’t been aiming- it’s time to AIM.

If you have been aiming for a long time - it’s time to FIRE.

Been firing a long time & missing - it’s time to HIT the bulls eye.

Please don’t let procrastination win over you again.

"We will not know unless we begin". —Peter Nivio Zarlenga
